Chainsaw is a distressed display typeface that feels unearthed rather than designed. Each uppercase character was hand-drawn using glue on paper, then aggressively spray-painted until saturated. The glue resisted the paint, leaving behind thin, blobby strokes with decomposed edges and unstable connections—like lettering eroding in real time.
The forms feel brittle, sunbaked, and haunted. Strokes stretch and sag where they meet, creating a subtle drip and fracture that evokes rural horror, forgotten places, and slow-moving menace. Chainsaw reads clearly at display sizes while retaining an unsettling, handmade irregularity that never fully settles.
Originally created for a senior college portfolio using Fontographer, Chainsaw is presented here as a raw archival release. This version includes uppercase letters only, with no numerals or punctuation—embracing limitation as part of its character.
